LAS Meeting on July 17th

The Longmont Astronomical Society will meet 7 to 9 pm in the Community Room (Rm #1480-82) at the Front Range Community College, 2190 Miller Drive, Longmont, CO on July 17, 2008. The speaker will be Dr. Suzanne Traub-Metlay, educational coordinator for Fiske Planetarium, who will discuss the ESA Herschel and Plank telescopes which are scheduled for launch in early 2009.
The Herschel telescope will perform astronomical observations in the far infrared and sub-millimeter wavelenths. The Planck telescope will produce a full map of the sky of temperature anistropies of cosmic background radiation at an angular resolution of 10 arc-minutes.
