LAS Meeting April 17 - Imaging Mars

The presentation at the April 17th meeting is "Imaging Mars". Vern Raben will discuss some of the equipment and software programs that are available to the amateur astronomer to image the red planet and other solar system objects.  He’ll give a tutorial on how to configure and use the “FireCapture” software for capturing planetary images. Alignment, stacking, and enhancement of the images using software tools will be discussed. Techniques to measure and map planetary features will be discussed as well.

The meeting will be at the IHOP Restaurant. 2040 Ken Pratt Boulevard, Longmont, Please join us for  for coffee, dinner or just desert around 6 pm;  The general meeting and presentation will begin at 7 pm.

Vern Raben began observing Mars and other celestial objects at age 9. He built several telescopes while in grade school, high school, and in college. He has had a life-long interest in astronomy. He is currently involved in video imaging of meteors, comets, planets, and the moon. He has BS degrees in electrical engineering and computer science and MS degree in computer information systems. Over the years he has worked for organizations in a variety of engineering roles in controls, instrumentation, electronics, and software fields, He is now retired.
